Our training as chemists is, in most cases, many years in the past. Some things may be better today than they were then, while others may not. And this applies not only to the equipment and safety standards in our laboratories, but also to the social environment.

Our female colleagues who studied chemistry in the 1960s occasionally experienced situations that seem alien today. Balancing career and family was even more challenging then than it is now.
